Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI Is Now Available to Order: Price, Range and Key Features

Volkswagen is giving its famous GTI badge a completely new direction.
The company has started taking orders for the new ID. Polo GTI, making it the first fully electric car in Volkswagen’s 50-year GTI history. The new model combines the small size of a Polo with the performance-focused character that buyers expect from a GTI.
The ID. Polo GTI is now available to order in Germany with a starting price of €39,995.
This is more than just an electric version of the regular Polo. Volkswagen has made several changes to give the car a stronger performance character.
226 PS From a Single Electric Motor
Under the body, the ID. Polo GTI uses a 166 kW electric motor producing 226 PS and 290 Nm of torque.
The motor sends power to the front wheels, keeping one of the traditional characteristics of Volkswagen’s smaller GTI models.
The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while its top speed is 190 km/h.
Because an electric motor can deliver its torque almost immediately, Volkswagen says the ID. Polo GTI offers quick responses when the driver presses the accelerator.
Designed for Drivers Who Like Cornering
Volkswagen has not focused only on straight-line acceleration.
The ID. Polo GTI comes with an electronically controlled front differential lock, which helps manage the power going to the front wheels. This should be particularly useful when accelerating out of corners.
The car also gets adaptive DCC sports suspension and specially tuned progressive steering as standard equipment.
There is also a dedicated GTI driving mode. Drivers can select it when they want a sharper and more dynamic response from the car.
It Still Looks Like a GTI
Despite moving to electric power, Volkswagen has made sure the ID. Polo GTI is easy to recognize as a GTI.
The exterior includes the familiar GTI honeycomb design, red detailing and sporty styling, along with standard 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin follows the same performance theme with sports seats, a GTI steering wheel and red accents.
Volkswagen has also added a fun retro touch to the digital displays. The Retro Display can give the driver’s screen a design inspired by older Volkswagen models, connecting the modern EV with the history of the GTI name.
Up to 424 km of Range
The ID. Polo GTI uses a 52 kWh battery.
Volkswagen quotes a WLTP range of up to 424 km, which should make the car suitable for more than just short performance drives.
For longer journeys, the car supports DC fast charging at up to 105 kW. Volkswagen says charging from 10% to 80% takes around 24 minutes under suitable conditions.
That gives the ID. Polo GTI a useful balance between everyday driving and weekend fun.
Small Size, Useful Interior
The ID. Polo GTI remains a compact car, but its electric platform helps Volkswagen make good use of the available space.
The car measures around 4.1 meters in length, making it easy to position in city traffic and tighter parking spaces.
With the rear seats folded, the luggage area can expand to up to 1,240 liters.
This is important because the ID. Polo GTI is not being positioned as a weekend-only sports car. Volkswagen wants it to work as an everyday electric vehicle as well.
How Much Does the ID. Polo GTI Cost?
The new Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI starts at €39,995 in Germany.
That makes it considerably more expensive than the regular ID. Polo, but buyers are also getting a much more powerful electric motor and additional performance equipment.
The price puts the ID. Polo GTI in an interesting position for buyers looking for a relatively small electric car that still offers sporty performance.
Another Electric GTI Is Coming
The ID. Polo GTI will not be the only electric GTI for long.
Volkswagen has already confirmed plans for the ID.3 GTI, which is expected to enter pre-orders in early 2027. Unlike the front-wheel-drive ID. Polo GTI, the ID.3 GTI will use rear-wheel drive.
This suggests that Volkswagen sees electric performance cars as an important part of the future of the GTI brand.
Final Thoughts
The Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI is an important step for one of Volkswagen’s most recognizable performance names.
Instead of trying to copy a petrol GTI exactly, Volkswagen has adapted the formula for an electric car. The result is a compact EV with 226 PS, 290 Nm of torque, a 6.8-second 0–100 km/h time and up to 424 km of WLTP range.
With orders now open from €39,995, the biggest question is whether traditional GTI fans will enjoy the move from petrol power to electric performance.
For Volkswagen, however, the message is clear: the GTI badge is not disappearing. It is moving into the electric era.
