Why Obito Was More Dangerous Than Itachi in a Real Fight

October 20, 2026 5 Min Read

Itachi Uchiha is one of the most respected shinobi in Naruto. His intelligence, Mangekyo Sharingan, and deadly genjutsu make him a terrifying opponent. However, being a brilliant fighter does not automatically make someone the most dangerous person on the battlefield.

Obito Uchiha had something that made him especially difficult to defeat: Kamui. His space-time ability allowed him to avoid attacks, control the distance between himself and his opponents, and create openings that even powerful shinobi struggled to handle.

When we compare their abilities, fighting styles, and battle experience, there is a strong argument that Obito was more dangerous than Itachi in a direct fight. Itachi had powerful ways to win, but Obito’s abilities made him an extremely difficult target to defeat.

1. Kamui Gave Obito an Advantage Itachi Could Not Ignore

Obito’s greatest weapon was Kamui. This ability allowed him to make parts of his body intangible by sending them into another dimension. Ordinary attacks could pass through him without causing damage, making it extremely difficult for opponents to land a clean hit.

Itachi had several deadly techniques, including Amaterasu and his Susanoo. However, landing these attacks against Obito would be a serious challenge.

Obito could also teleport himself and other targets through Kamui. This gave him control over positioning and created opportunities to catch opponents off guard.

Itachi was smart enough to search for weaknesses, but finding a weakness and exploiting it during a fast-moving battle are two different things.

Kamui did not make Obito invincible. His ability had limitations, and skilled opponents could exploit the moments when he became vulnerable. Even so, it gave him a major defensive advantage.

2. Obito Was More Difficult to Predict in Battle

Itachi was famous for planning several steps ahead. He studied his opponents, identified their weaknesses, and used psychological pressure to gain control of a fight.

Obito was also highly intelligent, but his fighting style was different. He combined deception, unusual movement, surprise attacks, and space-time ninjutsu to make opponents question what they were seeing.

Against most shinobi, this created a dangerous problem. They could understand what Obito was doing and still struggle to stop him.

His masked identity also helped him manipulate enemies and conceal his true intentions for years. This ability to control information made him dangerous beyond direct combat.

Itachi could outthink many opponents, but Obito’s combination of deception and unusual abilities made him a difficult enemy to read.

3. Itachi’s Genjutsu Was Deadly, but Obito Was No Ordinary Target

Itachi’s genjutsu was among the most dangerous in the series. His Tsukuyomi could overwhelm opponents almost instantly, while his ordinary Sharingan techniques could create openings for decisive attacks.

However, Obito was also an experienced Sharingan user with considerable knowledge of Uchiha abilities. He was not an easy opponent to fool with basic visual tricks.

That does not mean Obito was immune to Itachi’s genjutsu. There is no clear canon battle proving that he could automatically resist every technique Itachi used.

The important point is that Itachi would need to find a reliable opening. Against someone who could evade attacks with Kamui and punish mistakes, creating that opening would be extremely difficult.

Itachi’s genjutsu gave him a real win condition, but it did not guarantee victory.

4. Obito Had More Than One Way to Control the Fight

Itachi possessed an impressive collection of techniques. Amaterasu could produce black flames, while his Susanoo offered powerful offense and defense. Its legendary weapons, the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror, made his arsenal even more threatening.

Obito’s strength came from a different combination of abilities.

He could use Kamui to escape dangerous situations, reposition himself, and attempt to trap opponents in another dimension. He also had access to powerful Fire Release techniques, the Sharingan, and other abilities that varied throughout his life.

His greatest advantage was how these powers worked together. He did not always need to overpower an opponent directly. He could wait, evade, manipulate the battlefield, and strike when an opening appeared.

In a real fight, that flexibility can be more valuable than having several individually powerful attacks.

5. Obito’s Battle Record Proved He Was a Major Threat

Obito’s actions throughout Naruto Shippuden demonstrated that his danger extended far beyond his personal fighting ability.

He manipulated events behind the scenes, influenced members of the Akatsuki, controlled the Hidden Mist through his powers, and helped drive the conflict that led to the Fourth Great Ninja War.

His combat record also showed that defeating him required teamwork, careful planning, and a deep understanding of Kamui.

During the war, Naruto, Kakashi, Might Guy, and Killer B had to work together to counter his abilities. Kakashi’s connection to Kamui eventually became essential to exposing a weakness in Obito’s defense.

This does not prove that Itachi would lose every possible matchup. It does show how difficult Obito was to deal with when his abilities were used effectively.

Itachi was a formidable opponent, but Obito’s combination of combat power, deception, and long-term planning made him a threat on a much larger scale.

6. Itachi Still Had a Real Chance to Win

A fair comparison must recognize Itachi’s advantages.

His intelligence was exceptional, and he could quickly identify patterns in an opponent’s behavior. His Susanoo offered powerful defensive options, while the Totsuka Blade could seal targets it successfully struck.

If Itachi discovered the timing and limitations of Kamui, he could potentially set a trap and exploit the brief moments when Obito became tangible.

Obito also could not remain intangible while attacking in the same way indefinitely. His need to interact with the physical world created opportunities for a prepared opponent.

The outcome would also depend on which versions of the characters were fighting. Their health, available abilities, knowledge of each other, and battlefield conditions could change the result.

Still, if we compare their overall combat toolkits and assume a direct fight between capable versions of both characters, Obito has a compelling advantage because his signature ability makes him so difficult to hit.

Conclusion: Obito Was the More Dangerous Opponent

Itachi Uchiha had the intelligence, genjutsu, and offensive power to defeat many of the strongest shinobi in Naruto. Under the right circumstances, he could threaten Obito as well.

But Obito’s Kamui changed the nature of a fight. He could avoid attacks that would defeat other opponents, control positioning, and turn an enemy’s mistakes into opportunities. His deception and experience made him even more difficult to handle.

The decisive argument for Obito is not that Itachi lacked power. It is that Obito’s abilities made it much harder for Itachi to use his power effectively.

In a direct fight, that difference could be decisive. Itachi had deadly weapons, but Obito had the kind of ability that could prevent those weapons from ever finding their target.
